The Department of Revenue and Taxation has written to the legislature, saying they cannot comply with Bill 333.
The bill, which just became law this week when senators voted to overturn the Governor’s veto, requires GovGuam to report to the Legislature all coronavirus funding being spent on island.
Dafne Shimizu, the director of Rev & Tax, says they cannot abide by the measure since it’s against federal laws that they’re obligated to follow.
“Internal Revenue Code Section 6105 does cover this and that’s our position. And it’s always been the position of our agency. There are things that, again, because of Internal Revenue Code, cannot be provided,” Shimizu said.
Shimizu has already sent a letter to Speaker Tina Muna Barnes informing her of the restrictions.
