Drug Sweep At DYA Reveals Clean Compound

Guam – Customs officers and airport working dogs conducted a drug sweep at the Department of Youth Affairs Compound in Mangilao this morning.

The surprise search was ordered by DYA Director Adonis Mendiola and comes one day after the arrest of a DYA employee on charges of drug possession and criminal sexual conduct. John LG Salas was arrested shortly after midnight Thursday.  Salas is an administrative assistant at dya.

Mendiola says today’s search was meant to send a strong and serious message to dya employees and clients that drug use will not be tolerated.

“The unfortunate circumstances of the day before wasn’t just a promoting of that but it was a reinforcement of a zero tolerance policy we have for all including our kids,” Mendiola told PNC. “So we wanted to make sure no contraband was present and to send a strong message to our staff and employees that we hold them to a high standard of having a drug free workplace.”

According to Mendiola no illegal substances were found in today’s sweep.
