DYA Employee Arrested For Child Abuse, Possession of Schedule II Substance

Guam – An employee of the Department of Youth Affairs has been arrested on multiple charges including Criminal Sexual Conduct and Possession Of a Controlled Substance.

44-year old John LG Salas was arrested shortly after midnight today after a vehicle he was riding in was pulled over because it was swerving. According to the Magistrate’s Report filed in Superior Court today the vehicle was driven by Salas’ 16-year old nephew.

GPD Spokesman AJ Balajadia wrote in a release to the media that officers found the drug ice and a glass pipe with suspected ice residue during a search of the vehicle. The Magistrate’s Report also states that Salas’ nephew told officers that Salas had molested him in a hotel room earlier in the night.

DYA Public Information Officer William Castro confirms that Salas is employed at DYA as an Administrative Assistant but he says Salas had no interaction with the youth confined at DYA.

“Because of the allegation we take it seriously within our department,” Castrol told PNC. “We are awaiting GPD’s report to do any action and the attorney general’s office has been called on in reference to the issue now we’re facing.”

Salas faces charges of possession of a schedule ii controlled substance, 4th degree criminal sexual conduct, and child abuse.
