DYA Officer Fired for Minor’s Escape

The DYA client escaped on May 29 but was located a few hours later.

Guam – An employee at the Department of Youth Affairs has been fired after a minor was able to escape from the youth compound.

The agency released a statement today announcing that as a result of an internal affairs investigation into the escape of a client, DYA management determined that one officer “failed to maintain an accurate head count of clients after school was dismissed.”

DYA says the escape occurred on May 29 around 2 pm, shortly after the completion of the DOE Liheng Famagu’on School.

The 14-year-old was eventually found a few hours later. The employee’s name was not released to the media.
