Home learning still seems to be the ideal option for most of the island community and the largest sign-up for online distance learning is coming from one group of students.
Though all of the elementary schools are able to open for face-to-face instruction on January 19, GDOE Superintendent Jon Fernandez says elementary schools also have the biggest registration for the online distance learning module.
“Right now, we are continuing to put out and receive applications. I don’t have numbers yet but we have a lot of interested schools who have expressed their eagerness to have the application process start. So we do know there’s more demand on the elementary side. On the secondary side, we think that we’ll make progress on the secondary side, but a part of the progress will have to wait for the internet access option to be made available,” Fernandez said.
GDOE is still in the procurement process of securing an internet company but is looking to the end of January to move forward with the process.
