Guam – The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) hosted a job fair for service members Thursday at the Sheraton Laguna Resort.
The event is part of ESGR’s new Employment Initiative Program, which is designed to help bridge local employers with unemployed guard and reserve members, veterans and their spouses.
Program Administrator for Guam/CMNI Captain Josephine Blas says the job fair exceeded their expectations. Early Thursday afternoon, she noted around 250 people showed up to meet with 20 different employers. Blas says by the end of the day, they expected to record about 400 potential job seekers.
However, she also points out it is an eye opener for how many of Guam’s service members are unemployed.
“In fact it is kind of alarming that are unemployed service members probably make up a bigger percentage than the normal population of unemployed” said Blas.
The job fair ended at 4 p.m.. Blas adds more events are being planned in the coming months.
