Guam  – Guam Police have arrested 36 year old Estanislao B. Matagolai on a charge of Theft by Deception.

Guam Police Spokesman Officer A.J. Balajadia says that Matagolai is accused of  defrauding elderly island residents by pretending that he is a relative needing money to bring his dead child home to Guam.

Officer Balajadia says that Matagoli got money from senior citizens who thought they were helping a family member “only to find out they’ve been defrauded.”

Balajadia said that Matagolai got “information off social media sites and uses that information to deceive the elderly.” Matagolai was not the relative of any of the victims he preyed on and “he does not have a child who died off island” says Balajadia.

Officer Balajadia says that Matagolai has a prior arrest record “for using this technique to defraud people.”

Anyone who believes they have been a victim of Matagolai is asked to come forward and file a complaint by calling Detective Balbin at 475-8553
