Following a house fire on Monday, a family of seven, including five young children, have been displaced from their home in Dededo.
The fire happened just before 11 a.m. on Monday along Chalan Akudi in Dededo.
Nurly Pucholong says that one of her sons alerted her to the fire outside their home but that she does not know what caused it.
She tried to extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from engulfing her wood and tin house, but she could not reach the fire.
“My son came to me, telling me that there is a fire outside, so I went and tried to check. I tried to stop the fire but I couldn’t because it was getting worse. So I went back to the house, carried my kids and baby, and we went outside,” Pucholong said.
Her landlord eventually contacted the fire department but the house was already completely destroyed.
According to GFD spokesperson Kevin Reilly, no injuries were reported from the incident.
With help from the American Red Cross and the Dededo Mayor’s Office, Pucholong and her family are temporarily staying at a hotel and are expecting to move to more long-term lodging with government assistance.
