Guam – No decision has been made regarding the shuttered Post Office facility in Agat.
The service station was closed at the start of the month after long time contractor Frances Duenas did not renew her contract with the Us Postal Service. Agat Post Office box holders continue to receive mail in Agat however parcel and accountable mail now must be picked up at the Agana Post Office.
USPS Public Information Officer Duke Gonzalos told PNC over the weekend that the USPS has tried to find another contractor but has been unable to do so. Several options are now being considered, including tearing down the post office and placing new PO boxes near the road, but Gonzales says no final decision has been made regarding the future service of customers impacted by the recent closure.
Agat Vice Mayor Agustin Quintallia calls the closure of the postal facility an inconvenience not just for his residents, but for all the people of the south.
Quintanilla says that the mayor’s office has offered some of their space to hold delivered packages for pickup but the postal service hasn’t accepted the offer. He also suggested that postal workers from the Agana or Barrigada offices be temporarily moved to Agat.
Meanwhile Agat customers who need to renew their PO boxes are asked to do so with a check or money order at the Agana Post Office.
