Archdiocese Welcomes International Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima

Guam – The Archdiocese of Agana is welcoming the return of the historic International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima for a second visit to Guam.

The Fatima statue arrived on Guam last Friday for the start of the Month of the Rosary. Hundreds filled Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Toto during its first stop that same evening and many gathered at San Vicente Church in Barrigada Saturday, October 2 as well.

The statue of Our Lady of Fatima will stay at San Vicente parish overnight and will leave that parish 11 a.m. Sunday, October 3. The statue will travel to San Dionisio Church in Umatac 6 p.m. Sunday where parishioners will hold an all-night vigil.

Representing Mother Mary and her miraculous appearance to three peasant children in Fatima, Portugal in 1917, the Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Blessed Mother has traveled the globe since 1947 as part of a worldwide mission of peace calling for prayers, penance and obedience to Our Lord.

The statue first came to Guam November 18 to December 10, 2006 and in that historic first visit thousands filled Guam’s churches and sites where the statue visited and stayed overnight in most instances.

The Archdiocese’s Division of Pastoral Ministries and the Newman Center Campus Ministry led by Fr. Mike Crisostomo is coordinating this year’s return pilgrimage.

The Fatima statue will visit virtually all of Guam’s Catholic churches as well as some schools and other sites. Mass, Rosary, Confession, and Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will take place at the different churches.

The Fatima statue visited the elderly at St. Dominic’s Senior Care Center in Barrigada and nearby Skilled Nursing Unit Saturday afternoon and will be at the Department of Youth Affairs 1 p.m. Sunday and the Department of Corrections 3:30 also Sunday.
