Inmates at the Department of Corrections have been at work the past few days erecting a fence around the halfway house.
DOC director Samantha Brennan made the decision to erect the fence following the escape of two inmates last month who walked out of the half-way house and got into a pickup truck that was waiting to take them away. Both escapees self-surrendered about 12 hours later.
In a recent interview with K-57’s Patti Arroyo, Brennan said she decided to erect the fence around the minimum security halfway house to prevent any more escapes.
“Since the escape happened, I’m taking all the precautions to ensure that it doesn’t happen again. It is a half-way house but at the same time, we want to be sure there is no room for any kind of mistakes in the future. We just want everybody to understand what we’re doing is for the safety and security of everybody,” Brennan said.
The DOC director has not yet responded to a request for comment on the cost of erecting the fence.
