Guam- For those who know soccer, it’s not often that FIFA, soccer’s world-governing body, pays a visit to the island. For those outside the soccer community, the FIFA Grassroots Programme is a great way to become involved.
The FIFA Grassroots Programme will take place August 28 to September 4 at both Fiesta Resort and GFA Headquarters in Harmon and will feature the expertise of FIFA instructors Tekeshi Ono and Dato Yap Nyim Keong of Japan and Malaysia, respectively.
The main goal of the Grassroots initiative is to get as many people as possible involved in the game, instill human values and, above all, to bring enjoyment to children simply by letting them take part in the beautiful game, according to the FIFA website.
The program, aimed at children 6 to 12 years old, consists of a course for coaches/educators (i.e. parents, school teachers, coaches) and a festival style soccer tournament to cap off the course.
The cost to attend is free and course materials and uniform will be provided. Lunch or snacks will also be provided.
For those interested in participating in the course, please contact chairperson Joe Cepeda at 988-7479 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
