Guam- The ongoing FIFA Grassroots Program, which aims to educate local coaches on how to coach youth soccer players, will culminate this weekend with a festival-style tournament at GFA Headquarters in Harmon.
“The most important element (for coaching youth players) is fun,” FIFA instructor Takeshi Ono said. “I want to see the smiles on the faces of the children.” Indeed there will be many smiles to be had as there will over 200 children expected to show up for the tournament. Registration will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, with the festival scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m.
Drinks and snacks will be provided for the children throughout the tournament.
A total of thirty coaches are participating in the grassroots course, which began on Saturday.
GFA is also encouraging all clubs with Under-10 and Under-12 players to participate in the festival. GFA will be presenting balls and other equipment to member clubs to use in the upcoming Guam Shipyard GFA Robbie Webber Youth Soccer League Fall Season scheduled to start September 11.
The donation of equipment is part of the FIFA Grassroots Program, which aims to bring the game of soccer to everyone worldwide.
