The Guam Fire Department responded to a fire at an apartment complex in Tamuning earlier today.
The fire engulfed one of the apartments at Tumon View Phase 1, spreading upstairs and next to the other apartment. Fortunately, none of the tenants sustained any injuries.
According to the neighbors living next to the unit, they heard what sounded like a pop noise, followed by smoke coming to their units, and then when they stepped outside, they saw fire come out of their neighbor’s balcony window.
Although the owner of the apartment unit did not want to make a statement, Vangie Cepeda, the property manager of the Tumon View Phase 1 apartments, told PNC what happened.
“According to the homeowner, he was doing his school work with UOG (University of Guam) when he heard a loud bang and then, all of a sudden, fire. So he’s a bit shaken and he feels really bad for the other units. We’re just blessed that no lives were lost today,” Cepeda said.
GFD spokesperson Kevin Reilly said GFD responded immediately once they got the call.
“At 2:10 this afternoon, our units picked up a call for a reported subject fire in the condominium units up in Rivera lane in Tamuning. When they got there, the fire was contained to one unit of the 3-story complex. Smoke damage and heat in the unit itself was noted,” Reilly said.
The fire was contained and deemed under control at 2:45 pm. The Guam Fire Department is investigating what caused the blaze.
