In just a few hours, we’ll be counting the seconds until fireworks streak through the sky and announce the arrival of 2020.
For those preparing to toast and cheer as the clock counts down to signal the end of 2019 and the beginning of a new year and a new decade, four sites have been selected to display fireworks that will paint the night sky in brilliant bursts of light.
Kicking off at midnight, two 12-minute shows are set to go off at Ypao Beach and Hagatna Bay. In addition, two smaller shows will take place at the Leo Palace and the Sheraton. For those not planning to stay up, there will also be a family pre-show at 9 p.m. at Ypao Beach.
According to Jeff Sanchez from ShowPro Pyrotechnics, the company organizing the displays, the two longer shows will be synced to music and are planned to be special, especially for those viewing the displays from high lookout points.
“Basically, if you look at our Agana and Ypao shows, you’ll notice that they’re similar. They’re a mirror image. That’s what we’re going to pull off this year. Pretty exciting,” Sanchez said.
Sanchez says that following regulations is paramount when it comes to fireworks and that they’re fired from a safe distance.
But although his line of work is dangerous, Sanchez says that all of the planning and preparation are worth it to see the reactions of those watching the shows.
“We want to encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the show and be a part of it. It’s one thing to experience it on YouTube or social media, but it’s another thing to actually be there and feel the explosions and to see and hear the “oohs” and the “ahhs” and be a part of that. So that’s going to be fun,” Sanchez said.
