First Lady Reads to Students on “Read-For-The-Record” Day

Guam – Elementary school classrooms had some special guests today as the Department of Education participated in Read For The Record Day, a day when students across the nation are encouraged to read the same book.

This years book was Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney. Some classrooms were lucky enough to have local celebrities come and read the book to them.

First Lady Christine Calvo was among the guest readers at Chief Brodie Elementary School.

“They were excited,” said GATE Teacher Becky Klemm when asked how her students reacted to having the First Lady visit. “They got really shy, and thats never happened.”

This was Guam’s fifth time participating in Read For The Record Day. Last year more than 9,000 students participated on Guam and 2 Million worldwide.
