Flu season reaches epidemic level

The spread of the flu is often seen after the start of the school year.

Guam – Officials are warning residents that flu season is here and it has now reached epidemic proportions.

Department of Public Health and Social Services is declaring the onset of Type A influenza epidemic on Guam, but they say this is not entirely unexpected. The island frequently experiences an increase in the flue after the start of the school year.

With that in mind, public health officials are encouraging residents to get the flu vaccine and take everyday precautions to prevent the spread of the disease.

This includes washing hands, using tissue to cover your face when coughing or sneezing, or coughing and sneezing into the elbow area and staying home whenever you have flu like symptoms.

Those symptoms include fever, chills, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches, fatigue and vomiting. T
