Eddie Baza Calvo has stepped down from the political limelight, but on Thursday, the former governor and five-term senator took time to share his current life as a private citizen during a Rotary Club meeting.
After 18 years as a public servant, Calvo has now eased back into his former career as a business man. Now that he is working for the public sector, Calvo said he has two roles – as the chief operating officer of PMC Investments and vice president/director of Calvo Enterprises.
“This is the first speech that I made since sometime in December of 2018. It kind of reminds me of how my lifestyle was just a few months ago. When, on average, it is about two to three speeches that I have to make as a Governor on a daily basis. Obviously, things have calmed down a little bit and I enjoy my life,” Calvo said.
As a governor, he would attend several community gatherings on a daily basis. Calvo said he was always welcomed by the various cultural groups that contribute to Guam’s diversity.
For Calvo, being governor was a humbling and honorable experience. Nowadays, he does a lot of gardening and spends more time with his family.
