Just in time for Women’s History Month, an artist with Guam roots has released a new song reminding women that … well … they are queens.
Former Yona resident and female rapper CasanovaOnTheMic who is now living in Seattle, Washington released her latest single “No Makeup” earlier this month.
“No Makeup” is a song empowering women produced and filmed locally!
“It’s something just to really make females think, understand, and to let them know that they are more than what they think. They are so beautiful. They deserve it all and should be held on a pedestal because they are true queens,” CasanovaOnTheMic said.
Casanova says that the song was completed in June 2020, but wasn’t released until International Women’s Day.
She started off her musical journey by learning how to play the guitar at the age of 10, then began rapping in middle school.
The 26-year-old attributes her jump into music to local inspirations like Jason J, Ben LamLam, and KC Deleon Guerrero.
Casanova grew up with a family that wasn’t into dancing and music. But that didn’t stop her from changing a hobby to a source of income.
She encourages everyone to chase their dreams regardless of others’ opinions.
“Don’t stop. If someone says stop, don’t listen. Let it go one ear and out the other. Keep striving. Nothing’s free, work for it, earn it and you will deserve it,” she said.
You can stream Casanova’s new song on all music platforms.
