Former major league baseball player arrested for illegal drugs and firearms violations


On July 22, 2021, at about 2:10 am, officers received information from police dispatch on a suspicious individual at Hotel Mai’ana walking around carrying what appears to be a firearm.

Tumon-Tamuning Precinct Command officers responded and found a male individual fitting the description.

The individual was later identified to be John Duane Hattig Jr., 41, male, from Guam.

As a result of the investigation, he was arrested and confined at the Department of Correction for the following offenses;

  1. (1) Count of possession of a schedule II controlled substance
  2. (1) Count Possession of a firearm without a valid firearms license
  3. (1) Count possession of a concealed firearm with a valid concealment license

The case was closed and forwarded to the Attorney General’s office for their information and disposition.
