Long lines were seen at the Tamuning mayor’s office Thursday where residents gathered to receive food commodities.
GDOE Superintendent Jon Fernandez is collaborating with village mayors across the island to assist in distributing various food items to those in need.
“We’ve been working with the mayors on a distribution schedule that would basically rotate from village to village for those mayors that are participating. So we did present the idea to the mayors over the past several weeks. We have a plan and a schedule that is coming together to start next Monday and what we’re going to try to do is nail down the distribution time and the locations of the villages where the food commodities will be distributed,” Fernandez said.
He added: “What we’re looking to do is now doing a rotation, you know, village by village and various parts of the island to give residents more opportunity to access that support without having to drive across the island to do so.”
According to Dededo Mayor Melissa Savares: “Most villages are receiving food commodities. This week, there are fruit boxes containing apples and oranges and some frozen shredded pork & cheese from Pacific Unlimited. Dededo will distribute these items for Dededo residents on Friday afternoon at the Farmers Coop entering from West Santa Monica Ave. Residents must bring a photo ID.”
