Guam – October is Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month. The Yigo animal shelter has more than 80 beautiful, loving, four-legged guests of the canine persuasion, each awaiting adoption.
During the month of October, the GAIN animal caregivers are hoping to adopt out each one of these furry little individuals to a loving, responsible home that will give them affection and companionship for the rest of their days. GAIN is reducing the adoption fee by 50% for the entire month of October in hopes of enticing the public to come up to the shelter and fall in love with one of our adorable guests.
Every animal at the Yigo animal shelter has a story but, unfortunately, they’re not able to tell their story to us. There is an American Bulldog in foster care; Howard is one of the many animals that leave us wondering how he showed up on our doorstep. One of the animal caretakers found Howard in the drop-off kennel as she was unlocking the shelter gates for the day. Howard looked close to death. He was emaciated and his red skin and open sores were bloody and oozing and most of his fur was gone. He looked as though he’d been the loser in a violent dog fight. He was eventually diagnosed with Demodectic mange, heart worms and ear infections. One of GAIN’s generous members has an affinity for American Bulldogs and when she heard about Howard, she quickly wrote a check to a local veterinarian for Howard’s care. GAIN doesn’t have a veterinarian on staff and depends on supporters to provide the donations necessary to care for animals we receive with health problems. Howard is now living at a foster home and is recovering nicely. Howard will be put on the adoptable list when he is healthy and will begin interviewing prospective parents during Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month.
Each one of the 80 dogs has a unique story of their very own. Do you have room to add another member in your family? If it’s a first-time pet, GAIN shelter employees will help you know what to expect and how to keep your dog and your home happy. Please take a short drive up to the Yigo animal shelter and walk around the yard until you find that one, special dog that needs your love and wants to give you love. Now that the adoption fees have been lowered to $30 for Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month, it is the perfect time to adopt a dog and fall in love. Please help GAIN adopt one until there are none.
