Earlier this week, The Guam Community College announced a new scholarship opportunity for those who are part of the island’s LGBTQ+ community.
The qualifications for the LGBTQ+ scholarship include:
Having a good standing with a minimum
cumulative GPA of 2.5 and
submitting an application form with an essay discussing your personal and career goals and involvement in promoting a positive identity and leadership in the LGBTQ community plus two letters of recommendation, and an official transcript.
This scholarship idea came about during the E2 Symposium held at the Guam Community College back in January 2020.
GCC brought together various groups of interest to focus on a common challenge: how to maintain diversity in our community while fostering inclusion.
The premise was that through engagement of all groups, particularly those marginalized for their ethnicity, gender, disability or gender identity, in areas of critical importance to our advancement.
According John Dela Rosa, the assistant director of communications and promotions at Guam Community College the essay gives the selection panel a glimpse into their involvement in the community, and that will factor into the rating of applicants
