GCC Culinary Students to Learn From Top Chefs


Guam – GCC Culinary Arts students are starting off their first week of Spring Semester with two unique opportunities to work with professional chefs. On Thursday, January 20, Consul General of Japan Yoshiyuki Kimura has graciously volunteered the services of his personal chef, Murakami Takashi, for a demonstration of Japanese cooking with local products. Students will gather in the kitchen in the GCC Multipurpose Auditorium at 10:00 AM, where Chef Takashi will demonstrate the making of tempura, sashimi, and rice ball (onigiri), using locally caught parrot fish, or butai in Japanese. The culinary students will then try out Chef Takashi’s recipes.   

At 2:00 PM that same day (Thursday, Jan. 20), Citibank is inviting up to 30 GCC Culinary students to watch the amazing cake-decorating skills of Penk Ching, legendary cake designer from the Philippines, at the Hyatt Regency Guam. Ms. Ching, the author of Caked in Sugar, conducts cake decorating demonstrations for schools, companies, and baking enthusiasts worldwide. Ms. Ching is on Guam to create the cake for the launch of Citibank’s new Citigold product.
