Guam Community College held an award ceremony this morning to recognize its top students.

The event — which was held at the Multipurpose Auditorium — was organized by GCC to commend its Most Distinguished Graduates for 2020 and 2021.

The Most Distinguished and Distinguished awards recognize the top two students who are graduating within the academic year.

The awardees are:

*Jennette Yara, who graduated with an Associate of Science in Computer Networking.
*Haley White with an Associate of Science in Marketing.
*James Fox with an Associate of Science in Computer Science.
*Dior Nguyen (Wen) also with an Associate of Science in Computer Science.

Yara and White were recognized for their performance in Academic Year 2020 while Fox and Nguyen were recognized for Academic Year 2021.

GCC President Mary Okada welcomed the guests at the ceremony

“Thank you for joining us to celebrate the accomplishments of 4 individuals who have separated themselves among their peers — Haley, Jennette, Dior, and James. We are here to celebrate you,” Okada said.

She added: “An educated and well-prepared workforce is the single most vital aspect in getting our island back on its feet. You lead those causes and filling that role.”

Okada pointed out that it’s not easy to achieve the honor of distinguished graduate in normal times. And to do so with all the challenges that we face during the pandemic is truly commendable.
