As the island braces for the end of Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) and its impact on our community, Guam Community College continues to offer unprecedented access to training and educational programs at no charge to island residents.
Along with the 19 boot camps that GCC will be rolling out over the next seven months, GCC is also offering the first year of courses free for students who are interested in Baking (Culinary) and Tourism & Travel Management.
The First Year Free program, now launching its second cycle, is funded by a US Department of Interior grant that is administered through the Guam State Clearing House under the Office of the Lt. Governor. It is intended to give students a starting point in pursuing their passion in Guam’s thriving food service industry and in rebuilding Guam’s number one industry, tourism.
Students who apply and qualify will be able to complete the first year of the two-year program at no cost for the course, books and materials required. However, if students do not complete the First Year Free program, they will be obligated to repay the cost of the program. This provision is intended to incentivize the students to complete the program.
The Baking courses will begin on July 5, 2021. All interested applicants are asked to immediately email Marivic Schrage at firstname.lastname@example.org. Ms. Schrage is the Department Chair for Culinary Arts.
The Tourism & Travel Management registration deadline is July 31, 2021. Please email GCC Tourism & Travel Management Department Chair, Eric Ji, no later than July 31.
