In previous school years GDOE has sectioned the school periods by quarters. In the upcoming school year – 2022 and 2023 they have decided to make a change by getting rid of quarters and establishing the sections as semesters only.

The change in the schools calendar was preempted by a few concerns that employees had for students.

With this change it allows flexibility for teachers to be able to gain more time to help students with certain instructional material. Quarterly instruction restricted teachers with the ability to go back to earlier sections in their lesson plans because of these restrictions. Sanchez also states that educators’ lesson plans would also be affected due to using powerschool. The quarterly set up would not allow for grading standards to be backtracked or move forward.

Included with this calendar update the school year 2022 and 2023 will begin on August 10th and end on May 19th.
