GDOE seeking volunteers for island-wide bus stop cleanup

“We look forward to welcoming our students and faculty back from the holiday break, and to a successful last half of the school year,” GDOE Superintendent Jon Fernandez said.

The Guam Department of Education is seeking volunteers to assist with an island-wide bus stop cleanup prior to the first day of classes.

Government agencies, GDOE division heads, administrators, staff, and interested volunteers will be assisting with the cleanup scheduled to take place on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at bus stops across the island.

GDOE Superintendent Jon Fernandez said the cleanup will ensure that students start off their day by waiting for their school buses in a clean bus shelter.

GDOE Deputy Superintendent Stacey Coletta said the cleanup will also revitalize the island’s bus shelters and help to kick-start the school year on a positive note.

Interested volunteers can register by emailing their name and contact information to by Aug. 2. Students should indicate their school, grade, and whether or not they will be seeking service learning hours.

Bus stop assignments will be disseminated to all volunteers the week prior to the cleanup.
