GDOE to Implement Policy Banning Romantic Relationships Between Employees and Students Next School Year

This will be GDOE’s zero tolerance of amorous relationships between employees and students.

Guam – The Guam Department of Education will be implementing a policy that will ban romantic or sexual relationships between GDOE employees and students starting next school year.

GDOE Superintendent Jon Fernandez wanted to follow the steps taken by both the University of Guam and the Guam Community College to strengthen their policies dealing with sexual misconduct, especially in regards to amorous relationships between faculty and students. Fernandez explains that he noticed that there is no clear language that prohibits relationships between GDOE employees and students, especially those who are already of the age of consent. Fernandez says he decided to go ahead and implement the new policy in the standard operating procedures by next school year. Fernandez explains he will be introducing the policy to the Guam Education Board tonight and he will be information all GDOE employees and stakeholders about the implemented policy soon.
