The Guam Department of Education has been working to resolve the student resource officer issue after the Judiciary decided to discontinue the deployment of SROs to the island’s public schools back in October.

The SRO program, which requires a school resource officer to be present on a school’s campus all day, is a federally funded program and is currently out for bid.

The goal for the program, according to GDOE, is to utilize the Resource Officers on campuses at the middle and high school levels.

The procurement is ongoing.

In an email to PNC, GDOE said: “The scope of procurement is developed to meet the specific and unique needs of the Guam Department of Education. Procurement is subject to several levels of review to ensure compliance with Guam law. To ensure the integrity of the ongoing procurement, interested vendors may register online and raise questions or concerns directly with the GDOE Procurement Office.”
