GEPA warns public to avoid all 43 beaches due to stormwater runoff

Guam EPA’s Beach Watch Program is issuing a beach advisory that includes all 43 beaches due to a large amount of rain received from the passing storm.

Stormwater runoff may contain additional bacteria and cause many beaches to have high concentrations of unsafe bacteria.

Guam EPA is urging residents to stay safe. Recreational activities on unsafe beaches may result in minor illnesses such as sore throats or diarrhea. It might also result in more serious illnesses such as meningitis, encephalitis, or severe gastroenteritis.

Children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems have a greater chance of getting sick when they come in contact with contaminated water.
