Guam – It seems all good things come in 3s as the hired trio of Cheri Stewart, Kristin Thompson and Dominic Gadia were approved by the GFA Executive Committee in last week’s meeting at GFA Headquarters in Harmon.

“It’s an honor that the Executive Committee has faith in me and I look forward to the challenge and will do the best that I can.” Stewart said after officially being named GFA Executive Director.

Stewart’s duties include overseeing the general day-to-day responsibilities of GFA, similar to an operations manager in the corporate world, and to provide assistance to the Ex-Co to improve efficiency and functionality in GFA. In addition, Stewart will also assume Technical Director responsibilities and be responsible for Guam’s national team program. Stewart moved to Guam in 2002 and immediately became involved with local soccer by coaching and playing with the Crushers Football Club. She earned a spot on the women’s national team in 2003 and became a women’s committee member the same year. In 2005, she became the deputy chairperson and then in 2009 became the women’s national program director.

Thompson now assumes the position of women’s national program director while Gadia is her opposite on the men’s side. Both Thompson and Gadia received their AFC “B” License for coaching last year, meeting the requirement to be the head coach of national teams from the Under-16 age group and up. The two coaches have grown up on island and have been a part of the national team program for years and are current senior team players.

All in all, it would seem GFA is making a move in a positive direction. The trio join current administration staff Bill Bordallo (Executive Assistant), Gianna Tenorio (Administrative Secretary) and Brett Maluwelmeng (Marketing & Media Officer).

“I feel coming on board is giving GFA a new sense of life,” Stewart said. “We can reach out more to the community.”
