This year, the Westin Resort hotel is partnering up with the Guam Fire Department for their fire evacuation exercise and elevator rescue training.
Annually, GFD partners up with hotels on island for the drill during which they can test the evacuation procedures that they have in place.
These training sessions and drills prepare firemen and hotel staff in case of an actual emergency.
Westin’s Online and Field Marketing Manager Sheena Tiamzon and Battalion Fire Chief Dean Aguon talked about their collaboration for the rescue training held Tuesday.
“Right now, as our employees are evacuated here, we have staff that are assigned to every floor, assigned to clear each floor, to ensure each guest is safe. Obviously, because it’s only a drill, the guests can stay in their rooms and they are informed to stay calm this year. We’ve collaborated with Guam Fire Department to assist them in their training exercises,” Tiamzon said.
For his part, Dean G. Aguon, Battalion Fire Chief, said: “Specific to this that I’m having my guys do, it’s an elevator rescue operation where victims are inside the elevator and they’re going to need to be able to be taken out, extracted and can’t get out on their own.”
The next fire evacuation and rescue drill for Westin will be tomorrow, December 16, from 9 – 11 am for elevator rescue only.
