GFT Proposes Mediator to Settle Port Contract Impasse

Guam – Guam Federation of Teachers [GFT] President Matt Rector has sent a letter to the General Manager of the Port Authority of Guam, Pedro Leon Guerrero, proposing that a mediator be appointed to to resolve the outstanding issues preventing a new union contract from being signed.

According to a posting on the GFT website, the union has presented a contract offer to the Port, but the Union says they have not received any counter proposals “that were in good faith.”

In the letter, Rector states that “Our members are quite anxious to conclude the collective bargaining process with the Port of Guam and would like to get back to the negotiating table as soon as possible.”

As a result, the statement reads “pursuant to 2 GARR §5112, GFT proposes to obtain services of Inafa’Maolek to serve as a mediator for any disagreements so that workers at the Port can finally get a contract.
