GIAA Initiates Disciplinary Action Against 2 Airport Police Officers Over Disaster Drill Injury

Guam – PNC News has learned that a termination notice has been issued against Guam Airport Safety Officer John Leon Guerrero and a suspension notice has been given to Airport Police Lt. Pat Tydingco in connection with the injury to a GCC nursing student during an airport disaster drill on June 1.

In addition, PNC News has learned that 4 officers were investigated but only Leon Guerrero and Tydingco were held responsible, in part, for the incident.

The Guam International Airport Authority however would not confirm the names saying only that it has taken administrative action against certain airport employees in connection with the injury to GCC nursing student Jimmy Lomibao.

A statement from GIAA says releasing the names of the individuals would violate the employees’ privacy protection under Guam law.

Lomibao was a volunteer during the disaster drill when he suffered a dislocated shoulder, a broken nose and other injuries while being detained by airport police.

Lomibao has hired attorney Doug Moylan and filed a criminal complaint with Guam Police over the incident.

GPD PIO Officer A.J. Balajadia told PNC News today that the case remains under investigation.
