$70K in Commissions for Lobby Art at New Hospital; GMRC Invites Local & Regional Artists to Submit Their Work


Guam –  With more than 100 artists in attendance at a recent press conference, preliminary details on the Guam Regional Medical City’s Art Competition were presented on the announcement of a $70,000 commission for signature art to be permanently displayed in the lobby of the new Hospital.

Artists from the local and regional area are being invited to submit portfolios of their works in the three-tiered selection process for consideration.

On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at the Sinajana Community Center, interested artists are beinginvited to meet to discuss the specifics of the competition. GRMC art contest coordinators will present and discuss components of the application process toward the selection of the art.

A 12-foot by 30-foot vertical space has been identified in the main lobby of the new Hospital,where the commissioned work will serve as a focal point in the three-story glass-enclosed area.A commission of $70,000 will be awarded to the winning design.

“We are continuing our efforts to establish partnerships with the local community now morespecifically with the artist community,” said Kevin Haws, Chief Operating Officer, GRMC.


“It is reflective of the theme of the healing process and the collaboration with a healthcare organization and the patients and families we serve,” he added.

Slated for completion in the summer of 2014, the $215 million private hospital will offer world-class health services tailored to the needs of Guam and the Micronesia region. The Medical City (TMC), a Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited Philippine healthcare organization, will operate GRMC.
