Tamuning, Guam – Bud Light Golden Hoops Classic (GHC) 2012 Fall Tournament continued its double elimination playoff games with teams playing hard avoid elimination on Sunday at Tamuning Gym.
In the 30 plus competitive division the Tamuning Typhoons played with heart as they stole a win in double overtime against the higher seed Bank of Guam 58-56 in the semi finals winner bracket. The Typhoons who are the defending champions secured their slot at another chance for a title.
Bank of Guam‘s 48-45 lead with .08 seconds left in the game was to be a sure victory. The Typhoons saw things differently calling a time out and inbounding the ball at the front court for a catch and shoot by Darrick Bollinger behind the arc that saw all net. In both overtime periods it was Bollinger’s free throws sinking 5 of 8 that sealed the win. Top scorers were Bank of Guam’s Jay Casimiro with 28 points followed by Typhoons Larry Packard Jr. with 15 points.
In the other 30 plus playoff game the Inarajan Hawks eliminated the Andersen Defenders in a come from behind win 44-40. The Hawks used their speed and aggression to outscore the Defenders keeping their hopes alive as they advance to the semi finals loser bracket playing Bank of Guam for the final slot in the championship game scheduled on October 28. Hawks Joey Santos scored 11 points and Defenders Fayth Thompson scored 22 points followed by Robert Lee with 12 points.

40 plus men’s competitive division:
Seed 1-Team Fire 56, Tamuning Typhoons 44. Team Fire advance to the championship game while the Typhoons play Ada’s Trust in the semi finals loser bracket on Sunday at 11am.
18 plus men’s varsity division:
Tamuning Typhoons 75, Team IX Club 23. Typhoons big men Pieerce Evangelista and Derrick Royster scored 26 and 22 points a piece. Team IX’s Justin Garcia scored 11 points.
Inarajan Hawks eliminated SPPC 76 Club 53-52. Hawks Jarvis Duenas scored 18 points and SPPC’s Justin Perez scored 27 points.
Malesso Rebels eliminated the Sixers Club 84-50. Rebels Barron Quinata and Jesse San Nicolas scored 17 points each. Sixers Travis Tyler and Stefan Whitehurst scored 19 and 17 points a piece.
Bank of Guam Club eliminated GWC 86-56. Bank of Guam’s Jerry Hinkle and Anthony Babauta scored 14 and 13 points a piece. GWC’s Rey Sablan scored 21 points.
Legacy Club eliminated Team IX Club 74f-34. Legacy’s Rodrigo Grande Jr. scored 22 points and Team IX’s Justin Garcia scored 13 points.
Team Heineken 85, Andersen Defenders 45. Heineken’s Joseph Blas and Earvin Jose scored 27 points each. Defenders Mikkah Hernandez scored 11 points.
Coed recreation division:
Team Fuetsa 45, Guam Radiology (GRC) 35. Fuetsa advance to the championship game while GRC drops down to the loser’s bracket and play Ada’s Trust Club on Friday at 5:30pm.
