Governor Lou Leon Guerrero has distributed up to $16,000 in scholarship awards to 33 women.

The i Ninametgot Famalao’an High School Completion Scholarship is a program to provide an opportunity for women who were unable to complete their high school education and help them achieve their high school diploma or GED.

The Bureau of Women’s Affairs in coordination with the Guam Community College administered the scholarship program and is federally funded by the GCC Adult High School Diploma program.

Upon completion, recipients are awarded a $500 scholarship check by the BWA.

Governor Lou Leon Guerrero spoke about the hardships that this program hopes to alleviate saying:

“It can be difficult to secure gainful employment without the minimum qualifications, even more so for women on average, so we invested in the opportunity they need to enhance their employability and increase their earning power.”

According to Lieutenant Governor Josh Tenorio, the remainder of the program award can be used to get the police or court clearance for job seeking and can aid in paying for gas and goods.

Scholarship funding is made possible through a grant to BWA from the American Rescue Plan.

A fillable PDF application for the program is available online at BWA.GUAM.GOV.
