Gov. Proclaims April Table Tennis Month, Announces Jr. Nat’l Team

Governor With Table Tennis Team

Guam – In light of an upcoming major international competition on the island, Governor Eddie Baza Calvo proclaimed April 2011 to be “Guam Table Tennis Month.”

“When students participate in sports, they learn valuable lessons like teamwork.  It also helps with social skills, teaches responsibility, and nurtures lifelong friendships.  Teams become families—families that demonstrate the diverse beauty found on Guam,” the proclamation states.

The 2011 Guam Table Tennis Junior & Cadet Open will be the first time for a Micronesian island to host an Oceania Cadet Challenge qualification competition; which will also be the only qualifying event to be held in the Oceania region this year.

Through this event, Guam’s youth players will compete for placement in the international tournament against players from Australia, Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Korea, Kosrae, New Caledonia, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, New Zealand, Palau, Solomon Islands and Tahiti.
