Gov. Proclaims Oct 9th – 15th as Emergency Nurse Week

A much-deserved recognition to Guam’s nurses as Governor Lou Leon Guerrero proclaims October 9th through 15th as Emergency Nurses Week.

PNC’s Khyomara Santana has more.

The Governor also proclaimed today, October 12, 2022, as Emergency Nurses Day, during a virtual proclamation signing, to recognize nurses for their commitment to helping people in need.

Besides that, the proclamation also aimed to thank ER nurses for always coming in to work to care for the people who need them the most.

William Kando, Acting Administrator for GMH said, “ER nurses provide comfort and reassurance to patients who know they are in the hands of caring, competent and highly skilled emergency nurses. It takes a strong person to handle the challenges an emergency room throws at you but ER nurses do it daily with efficiency and focus on caring for their patients.”

Since 1989 ER nurses have been recognized every year in October for their commitment to care for critically ill or injured patients.

The theme of this year’s proclamation and recognition is “standing strong” which describes the tenacity of Guam’s ER nurses who rise to every occasion where they are needed.

Governor Leon Guerrero expressed her gratitude towards ER nurses and said that she was honored to be part of this proclamation in their honor.

She added, “ER nurses are extra special nurses, and the reason for this is: you are faced with situations that you don’t know are coming in through those doors, and you are relied on to make the decisions that you need to make. You are faced with a variety of life-threatening situations and you are relied on to make those decisions to save the lives of our people”
