Governor Calvo Declares State of Mourning for GHC Administrator Martin Benavente

Governor Calvo declared a State of Mourning and ordered that government flags be flown at half staff until Benavente’s burial, which has yet to be announced. 

Guam – A member of the Calvo cabinet has passed away while serving in office. Guam Housing Corporation Administrator and former Dededo Commissioner Martin Benavente passed away over the weekend.

 

Governor Eddie Calvo spoke highly of Benavante calling him a good man and a good friend who brought love and compassion to the Calvo-Tenorio family. Lt. Governor Tenorio said the island has lost a great advocate for the people, particularly those in need. Speaker Judi Won Pat, on behalf of the Legislature, also extends her sympathies to the family of the late Martin Benavente, adding that Benavente was a true leader, championed noteworthy causes and provided housing for residents.
