Guam – Governor Eddie Baza Calvo will deliver his last State of The Island address tomorrow(Tues). Speaker B.J. Cruz has called for a special session on Tuesday February 13th at 4:30pm in the Speaker Antonio R. Unpingco legislative session hall of the Guam Congress building in Hagatna. The actual state of the island address is scheduled to begin at 5:30pm.
It’s likely the governor will touch upon the 48-million-dollar shortfall to GovGuam’s coffers due to the Trump tax cuts and the funding problems at the Guam Memorial Hospital. The governor has proposed raising Business Privilege Taxes, borrowing money and rescinding the tax exemptions for the wholesale, insurance and banking industries as potential solutions for GovGuam and the hospital’s cash crisis.
