New GVB Logo Unveiled as Governor Calvo Proclaims MAY Tourism Month

GVB will share the final results of the survey in the coming weeks and will utilize it to help develop the next strategic plan for the tourism industry.

Guam – The Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) unveiled its 50th Anniversary logo Friday evening evening at the Plaza Promenade in front of Gucci, Coach and the ABC store at the Outrigger Hotel in Tumon.

The new logo will take the place of  GVB’s current logo in all organization and corporate materials beginning January 1, 2013.

At the same event Friday evening,  Governor Eddie Baza Calvo officially proclaimed the month of May “Tourism Month”.

Annual TASTE GUAM to showcase at Skinner Plaza in Hagatna!

from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Open to the public, TASTE GUAM
is the ultimate food and beverage festival “Celebrating the Arts” during Tourism Month in May.
Celebrate TASTE GUAM with great food, local produce, fine spirits, non-alcoholic and alcoholic
beverages, live entertainment, and an excellent kid zone. NEW to TASTE GUAM in 2012 are a two
day event, outdoor event for everyone to enjoy including local residents, military and tourist
communities, an interactive street art painting display featuring local master artists Ron Castro,
Ric Castro and Raph Unpingco and the University of Guam’s Fine Arts students, and Marianas
Variety’s BurgerFest competition.
Net proceeds will be donated to the GHRA Culinary
Scholarship Program as well as Micronesian Chef’s Association and GCC Culinary Arts Academy.
Highlights of TASTE GUAM include:
Twenty six (26) exhibitors ranging from hotel, restaurant and local vendors;
A selection of local produce at the Farmer’s Market sponsored by the Farmers Co-Op of
Guam and UOG Cooperative Extension Services – WSARE;
A Budweiser Chef’s Cup Competition with a blind taste testing;
Unique beverage stations such as the Budweiser Beer, Wine & Spirits Garden featuring
beer, wine, mojitos, and other special alcoholic drinks. For non-alcoholic drinks, several
water and juice stations are available throughout the festival;
A chance for attendees to vote for their People’s Choice for best tasting burger at
BurgerFest and best local dish featuring a special ingredient, avocado, provided by the
Guam Farmer’s Co-op;
Four SCRIP booths to purchase coupons (cash only) with a special booth for tourists with
package tour vouchers;
A Kid Zone with popcorn, cotton candy and games, sponsored by MWR;

Live entertainment by local bands including Everything Zen; CQ Supreme; Empty Pockets
and High Rise.
Ten (10) recycling centers for glass, plastic and aluminum cans, sponsored by I-Recycle;
Dining and lounge areas for attendees to truly enjoy and relax at the Skinner Plaza.
Although entrance is free, food and beverages will be sold using SCRIPS in $20 booklets. Scrips
may be purchased at any one of the four booths at the festival or in advance through the GHRA
office in Harmon.
For added convenience, the Bank of Guam mobile ATM will be located
across from Skinner Plaza at the Chamorro Village.

The primary purposes of GHRA are to promote the highest standards of service and quality in the
hotels and restaurants on Guam, advocate just legislation and governmental regulations
governing the conduct of business, improve business-community relations through positive
interactions with Guam’s citizenry, and publicize the value and benefits of the island’s visitor
industry to the territory’s economy. GHRA is a private, non-profit trade association, which began
in 1972, with a small group of hoteliers. GHRA later revised its bylaws to include restaurants and
allied members. Today the association has 313 member organizations with nearly 9,000 guest
rooms and over 15,000 employees.
GHRA strives to be an active corporate citizen in the community. In this spirit GHRA gives
academic scholarships in the visitor industry trade, provides training and educational
