Governor Elect Calvo Gets White House Invite

Guam – Governor-elect Eddie Calvo is among the newly elected Governors to receive an invitation from President Barak Obama to attend a White House reception next month.

According to a release from the Governor-Elect’s Office, Cecilia Muñoz, President Obama’s Director of Intergovernmental Affairs made a phone call to Governor-elect Calvo this morning.  The release states that “She congratulated him on behalf of President Obama and extended the invitation.”

Governor Elect Calvo is quoted in the release as saying:““I want to thank President Obama for the invitation to the White House—it speaks volumes of his respect for our island. It is so important to have a mutually respectful relationship with the White House as the military buildup progresses.  This is a good first step in building that relationship.”

Calvo also said that if he gets a chance to speak personnaly with the President “My priority will be to focus the military buildup.  I will tell the President just how important it is for the federal government to pay for necessary resources outside of the military bases.  This buildup cannot negatively impact our island.  This buildup should build our quality of life up.  That’s the message I want to give our President.”
