Guam Energy Task Force Tasked With Search for Fossil Fuel Alternatives


Guam – Governor Felic Camacho Tuesday officially launched the Guam Energy Task Force.

The task force was created by an Executive Order to develop a long-term strategic energy plan for the island which is nearly 100 percent reliant on fossil fuels.

The aim of the task force is to address the full range of energy options with a focus on energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies.

GPA general manager Joaquin Flores is one of the members of the task forces leadership committee. “I think GPA plays a major role and I’m very happy to be part of the executive committee and we’re blazing new trails with energy and it’s no longer just providing power it’s providing energy services and we need to get our arms around that and define that better and i that strategic plan energy policies is really critical.”

Other members of the task force include UOG president Dr. Robert Underwood from, NAVFAC Marianas commander Capt. Peter Lynch, Acting Guam Energy Office Director Elisabeth Cruz, and the Governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff Shawn Gumataotao.
