Governor Lou Leon Guerrero on Friday reacted to the newly released CDC guideline saying fully vaccinated people can return to a life without face masks.

The governor, a former nurse, said she is not comfortable with this new guideline and still urges people on Guam to wear face masks.

“No, I’m not comfortable with it. I, we haven’t discussed it really, we’ll be discussing it this morning. But my position and I said this, is that until we get herd immunity of 80 percent, I am encouraging people to continue wearing their masks,” Leon Guerrero said in an interview with NewsTalk K57’s Patti Arroyo.

She added: “Again, it’s for their protection, and it’s for the protection of our community. And so I am not comfortable with that guideline. But they also still require wearing masks in public transportation, where you are traveling by bus or train. So the fact that that is still a requirement, it leads me to believe that, you know, that this risk mitigation, this guideline doesn’t really do much for mitigation and for containing our virus. So that’s why, please, everybody come out and get vaccinated.”
