Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lieutenant Governor Joshua Tenorio have released their 75th Anniversary Liberation Day special messages.
As Guam commemorates 75 years of liberation, the governor said we should not forget the thousands of CHamorus and military service members who gave their lives so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have today.
“For the sacrifices of those who died and those who survived, we are forever indebted. And for the American men and women who rescued us from the atrocious acts of murder, rape and forced labor, the people of Guam will always be grateful,” the governor said.
For his part, Tenorio said the last seven decades have shown that there is no amount of brutality that cannot be overcome by love and forgiveness.
“Let’s celebrate this day and enjoy each other’s company in their memory. Let us also remember the lasting peace and friendships we have built with our visitors and our regional brothers and sisters, as well as our democracy with the United States,” Tenorio said.
Across the aisle, the Republican Party of Guam also issued a statement, saying that the Republican Party joins the people of Guam in commemorating a momentous day in the island’s history.
“As we remember on this Liberation Day 75 years ago, may we reflect on the resilience and inspiration of our people and most especially our war survivors. So as the sun rises and families and friends gather to remember and celebrate our liberation, it is so important to be mindful of the struggle of freedom over oppression by Guam’s greatest generation and the importance of the unbreakable bond between the United States and Guam. May God continue to bless our freedom and this special alliance for years to come,” said GOP Chairman Jerry Crisostomo
