Guam – Governor Eddie Calvo has proclaimed this week as employer support of the guard and reserve week or ESGR week.

The ESGR is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972 with the mission of gaining and maintaining employer support of the guard and reserve service. Today’s proclamation is in honor of the many service members who have left and continue to leave their jobs when called to protect the nation. Employers who must make sacrifices when their employees are away for military duty were also present. “As we fight this war on terror I think 70 percent of those who are now in the military are ones that have volunteered and made that oath after 9/11 knowing full well that they probably will be called for deployment into an area where they will be risking their lives,” said Governor Calvo.

This proclamation is not only a reminder that men and women continue to risk their lives to defend our freedom but also a reminder that this sacrifice is shared by the families and employers who support them.
