The Governor says the bill’s aim is to look for all options available for long term stability for GMH.

Guam – This morning Governor Eddie Calvo signed Senator Dennis Rodriguez Jr.’s Bill 277 into law allowing the Guam Economic Development Authority to issue a request for information or RFI for a potential public private partnership for the public hospital.

The Governor says the bill’s aim is to look for all options available for long term stability for GMH. Senator Rodriquez echoed this today saying that his bill get’s the ball rolling on a search for a long-term solution to GMH’s longstanding financial problems. “Without starting this process and without getting this RFI out and getting the information of what’s out there and provide the path of long-term stability we won’t know,” said Senator Rodriguez.

Some Senators have raised concerns that this bill could lead in the direction of privatization of Guam’s only public hospital without having enough public discourse on privatization.// Rodriguez and Governor Calvo both say the bill merely allows GEDA to begin seeking information on what options are out there.
