Guam – Following last month’s Typhoon Mangkhut and a Major Disaster Declaration approved by President Trump, Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense and FEMA will host an applicant briefing this Thursday, October 11th, 2018 at the GHS/OCD in Agana Heights.
The presidential declaration of a Major Disaster on Guam has opened doors for federal reimbursements and additional aid for GovGuam agencies and certain non-profit organizations that responded to relief efforts during Typhoon Mangkhut. Although individual aid does not fall under the declaration, Public Assistance, the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program and SBA Disaster Loans for private non-profits, do.
This Thursday, GHS/OCD and FEMA will host an applicant briefing to inform prospective federal aid recipients on the type of assistance for emergency protective measures and infrastructure repairs that they may be entitled to. Eligible facilities, work, cost, funding options, record keeping and documentation requirements will also be discussed.
Public Assistance available, will provide reimbursement grants to stat/territorial and local governments, such as GovGuam, in addition to certain non-profit entities to aid with their response and recovery efforts spent during and post-Typhoon Mangkhut. Assistance for debris removal, emergency protective measures and the permanent restoration of infrastructure will be covered under the PA Program. The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program will also be made available, to enact mitigation measures that reduce the risk of loss of life and property from future disasters.
In addition, low-interest federal disaster loans are also made available to certain private non-profit organizations through the SBA Disaster Loans Program, according to U.S. Small Business Administration Head Administrator Linda McMahon. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply online at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela, where additional information and applications available for download may be found.
Prospective federal aid recipients are encouraged to attend the applicant briefing this Thursday, October 11th, 2018 at 10am. The meeting will be held at the GHS/OCD facility, Agana Heights.
